Everyone You Meet is a Reflection of Yourself.
Happy people live in a happy world, sad people live in a sad world. I believe everyone you meet is a reflection of yourself.
We make choices every moment. Our consciousness creates a thought and sends brain signals to our mouth and body and we make a choice. We choose what to think, what to say, and how to move our bodies through time.
I remember first moving to my apartment in Boulder, Colorado. I was so excited to be in a new place. I had earned two jobs within a week of moving there, and after leaving a depression and dead ends in Portland, I was so excited for this fresh start.
There were these two women who worked the front desk of our apartment complex and I saw them regularly whether getting quarters for laundry or asking questions about rent. I made jewelry in my apartment and one of the ladies asked if I could make some earrings out of shark teeth she got in Hawaii. She offered me three extra teeth to keep for myself and I made my favorite pair of earrings and wire wrapped necklace. They always asked how my day was.
I was talking to my neighbor one day, who regularly spoke of his problems, and he mentioned something about "the rude bitches" at the front desk. I was really confused because those women had only shown me kindness.
But I was in a good place at the time, and my neighbor wasn't. I had seen him show rudeness to others, but he was also friendly to me.
Looking back on my own life, I now see when I was giving attitude towards someone, they dished it right back. We can allow our emotions and situations to become a vicious cycle of offending and defending. Anger breeds more anger. But I realize when I am kind to someone, 9 times out of 10 they will be kind back.
Since I've moved back to Portland, some days are so overcast, and it seems the storm won't pass. But I just have to remember there is always sun hiding behind even the grayest clouds.
I believe every soul is filled with this radiant light from our universe and wants to connect and reflect that soundness. But just as there is no day without night, I believe everyone has darkness inside them too. Whether filled with overwhelming pain or sadness, or fear or anger, we all struggle and suffer.
